Territorial Guard Society

Indiana Genealogical Society

In honor of the bicentennial of the War of 1812 (celebrated from 2012 to 2016) and the bicentennial of Indiana statehood (occurring in 2016), the Indiana Genealogical Society has begun a lineage society, the Territorial Guard Society of Indiana. If you are an Indiana Genealogical Society member who is a direct descendant of someone who lived within the boundaries of present-day Indiana on or before December 11, 1816 (the date of Indiana statehood), you are eligible to apply for membership in the Territorial Guard Society of Indiana.

Prospective members must fill out the Application Form, include the documentation proving their descendancy and submit the application fee. The TGSI’s Governing Committee will review applications received by the December 31 deadline each year and inductees will receive a Certificate of Membership and the TGSI medal. New members are inducted in a ceremony during the Indiana Genealogical Society’s annual conference each April. Application materials of TGSI members are then stored at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne.
