First Lieutenant Maurice H. Moore, flying instructor in the U.S. Air Corps during World War I, held a record for earning his wings after only six hours of flight training. In 1939 he was appointed county auditor for Santa Clara County, California, and was re-elected to two additional terms before accepting a similar position with the city of Palo Alto. He was a Mason and a past commander of the Knights Templar.
