Martin resided in Loogootee, Martin County, Indiana, and Washington, Daviess County, Indiana. He emigrated in 1890 to Sumner, Lawrence County, Illinois. Martin was a “saddler” or harness maker and was a merchant as such in Illinois and Vigo County, Indiana.
