Children with Edwin Forrest Shinn:

When Jennie found out that her first husband, John L. Rock, had another wife and children from whom he had not bothered to disentangle himself legally, she was, needless to say, awarded custody of their two children John, Jr. and Zena Fay.

Jennie and Edwin Shinn emigrated from Prairie Township, Kosciusko County, Indiana, to Lexington, Cleveland County, Oklahoma, after their marriage in 1895.

Throughout her life, Jennie was a resourceful woman. In May 1920 when her granddaughter, Genevieve Joy Peters, was born prematurely, weighing only two pounds and five ounces, Jennie kept the baby alive by feeding her with an eyedropper and surrounding her with hot bricks wrapped in flannel.
