James Vance Bunten’s father, William Bunten, left Kentucky, James’s birthplace, due to his antipathy to slavery. James V. Bunten resided at Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana, and moved in 1841 to Rushville, Buchanan County, Missouri.
