Children with Nancy Ann Watters:

  • Philip Daniel (1874-1956) married Anna Niccum
  • Minnie V. (1877-1959)
  • Laura (1878-1959)
  • Orah (b. 1880)
  • Lula (1882-1970)
  • Etta (1887-1969) (twin)
  • Effie (b. 1887) (twin)

James enlisted in Company B, 7th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Cavalry. He fought in 11 battles and was wounded at Egypt Station, Mississippi, on 28 December 1864. After he was discharged, he lived with his widowed mother for a few years, then in 1870 moved to Defiance County, Ohio. In 1885, he moved to Cherokee County, Iowa, and later that year, moved to Nemaha County, Kansas. After a fire destroyed their home, James, Nancy Ann, and Philip’s family all moved to Sheridan County, Kansas.
