After the death of his parents, Jacob and two of his younger sisters lived with his eldest sister and her husband, Margaret and Peter Shook. After their marriage in Marion County, Ohio, Jacob and Hester (Myers) Ludwick moved to Johnson Township, Ripley County, Indiana. After Hester’s death, Jacob emigrated from Indiana to Grinnell County, Iowa, in 1864, where he married Mary Hays.
