Harold lived in Bluffton, Indiana from 1926 to 1950 and Fort Wayne, Indiana from 1950 to 1954. He then lived in Dinwiddie County, Virginia (1959-1972) and Colonial Heights, Virginia (1972-1973).

Harold was a 1944 graduate of P.A. Allen High School in Bluffton, Indiana. He served in the Navy during both World War II and Korea.
