Genealogy Writing Award

IGS Recognizes Authors

The Indiana Genealogical Society acknowledges and honors excellence in genealogical writing through the Genealogy Writing Award. This award certificate is presented for outstanding articles published during the previous year, showcasing the dedication and talent of individuals contributing to the field. View list of previous winners.

To be considered for the Genealogy Writing Award articles must have at least 1,000 words (or a series of articles on the same topic that totals 1,000 words). Abstracts, transcriptions, indexes, or other forms of genealogical data are not eligible for consideration. Articles must be submitted and published during the previous year of the award. Membership in IGS is not required and multiple submissions are welcome.

The IGS Publications Committee shall review all articles and select a recipient. The Publication Committee then submits their recommendation to the IGS Board of Directors for approval. The Indiana Genealogical Society reserves the right to not bestow an award in a particular year. The recipient will receive notification. The certificate award will be announced and presented at the IGS Annual Conference usually held in April of each year.
