Preface to Database

Applications for Central State Hospital commitments from Monroe County are
available on microfilm at the Indiana State Archives in Indianapolis and
may be viewed readily by anyone. The applications, dating from 1927 to
1950, contain much information relevant to genealogists. In the database
noted below, only those records from 1935 and earlier are included in an
effort to preserve the privacy of individuals who might still be living.
Fields included in the database are: name; date of birth; date of
application; application number (where the application may be found on the
microfilm); and notes.

To illustrate the type of information typically found in an application,
there is an abstract of the Harry Demming application. Some of the
applications provide more information, some less.
