Wells county

Historical Overview

Wells county was created in 1835 from parts of Adams New Purchase, it was fully organized and detached from Allen, Delaware, and Randolph counties in 1837. Named for Captain William Wells, son-in-law of Chief Little Turtle of the Miami, veteran of War of 1812 and casualty of the Battle of Fort Dearborn, its population in 2020 was 28,180. Bluffton is the county seat.
