Newton county

Historical Overview

Newton County was founded in 1835 from unorganized territory and named for Sgt. John Newton, a Revolutionary War soldier. It was abolished in 1839 and restructured from Jasper County in 1859. Its population in 2020 was 13,830. Kentland is the count seat.
