Huntington county

Historical Overview

Huntington County was formed in 1834 from parent counties Allen and Grant. It was named for Samuel Huntington, who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence from Connecticut. Huntington was a nephew to Captain Elias Murray who was an Indiana legislator and the first postmaster and county treasurer of Huntington. In 2020 the population was 36,662. Huntington serves as the county seat.
