Historical Overview

Located in western Indiana, Fountain county was established in 1826 from Montgomery and Wabash counties. It was named for Officer James Fontaine who served in the Revolutionary and Indian Wars. Fountain’s population in 2020 was 16,479. Covington serves as the county seat.
