Daviess county

Historical Overview

Daviess county was organized in 1816 from parent county Knox. The county was named for Major Joseph Hamilton Daviess and U.S. District Attorney for Kentucky who was killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811. As of the 2020 census the county population was 33,381. Approximately 15% of the population is Swiss Amish. Washington serves as the county seat.
