Samuel lived in Carlisle, Sullivan County, Indiana (1845); Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi (1850); Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana (1860); and Vincennes, Knox County, Indiana (1865-1923).

Samuel Medearis served in the civil war as a private in Company B, 143rd Reg of the Indiana Infantry.
