Children with Beth Carpenter Johnson:
• Ward James (1920-1990) married Beverly Fohl
• Garet James (1924-2002) married Dacotah Omemee Swett

James resided in Vigo County, Indiana, until 1905, when the family left for North Dakota, and then later moved to Oregon. He served in the Army during World War I as a Lieutenant and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
