Knox County was organized in 1790 from the Northwest Territory and named for Henry Knox, a Revolutionary Way general and the first U.S. Secretary of War. In 2020 its population was 36,282. Vincennes serves as the county seat. Knox County suffered some record loss when deed records burned in 1814, but many were recorded.
