Jennings County was formed in 1817 from parent counties Jefferson and Jackson. The county was named for Jonathan Jennings who was the first governor of Indiana. In 2020 the population was 27,613. Vernon serves as the county seat. The county suffered minor record loss when the basement flooded due to a water leak.
