d. 24 August 1956, Salem, Polk County, Oregon

About 1907, Preston and Laura moved to a claim in Texas County in the Oklahoma panhandle. Following a few years in a dugout on the claim and as operator of a livery stable in Guymon, Preston decided to move to the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
Following Preston’s death in 1911, his widow shipped his body back to Rosedale, Parke County, Indiana, for burial. Her plans were to return to Indiana to live, but after living in Indiana for a short time, she moved back to Oregon to raise her children.
Preston enlisted on 13 May 1898 and served as a private in Company K, 2nd U.S. Infantry, during the Spanish American War. He fought in four battles of Santiago in 1898 and was honorably discharged at Anniston, Alabama, on 16 January 1899.
