Ancestor here lived in:

  • William A. Warthen came to Indiana from Tennessee at an early date and shortly after emigrated to Missouri. In 1835 he returned to Indiana and purchased the farm in Ray township in Morgan county that he lived on till he died. In 1937 He received a land grant from President Van Buren for his service in the War of 1812 for property in Ray Township Morgan County Indiana. North Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri and finally Indiana.

He married (1) SARAH WADKINS Bef. 1818 in Tennessee. She was born 1796 in Tennessee, and died Bet. 1838 – 1858 in Indiana. He married (2) MARY ANN COOK October 21, 1858 in Morgan county IN. He married (3) RHODA (FALLER) GORDON May 01, 1862 in Morgan county IN. She was born Abt. 1800, and died 1880.

William A. enlisted in Capt. David Smiths Company near Fayetteville, Tennessee. From Fayetteville, Tennessee, place of muster, he marched with the company to Fort Williams, Alabama, where he remained for the period of about four months and performed Garrison Duty. There were no battles in that district at that time. From Fort Williams he was furloughed beyond the time of his enlistment which he understood to be for the time of six months and permitted to return home in Overton County, Tennessee, where he was discharged. He was sent his discharge by his Captain from the home of the Captain at Sparta, Tennessee. William A. served from June 20, 1814 to February 2, 1815.
